Jan and Darren Zemlik

The Austwick Traddock near Settle is one of the loveliest places to hold a wedding that you have ever seen.    I was there on Saturday to photograph Jan and Darren’s wedding.   The sun was shining, the daffodils were bobbing and the little country church in Austwick looked magical as Jan walked up from the hotel, escorted by her Mum, Dad and bridesmaid.

It was a small wedding party which is just right for the Traddock because too many people would be a squash.  It isn’t that big but it is perfect.  Food is always exquisite, the owners are friendly and the place itself is so comfy you feel like you never want to leave!

The flowers were very pretty and appropriate for the setting – an English country wedding.  They were done by Sue at Buttonhole in Kirkby Lonsdale, just down the road.

There were no cars needed – The Traddock is just yards from the lovely church, where the kind and helpful Revd. Ian Greenhaulgh officiated.

The cake, one of the finest I’ve seen at a wedding in a long time was by ………… Jan’s mum!    It was a three tier with proper sugarpaste flowers.  I once did a course in this myself so I know how time consuming and intricate it is, but to me it is worth the extra cost of paying an expert to create this for you.  There are so many naff and clumsily decorated wedding cakes out there that still cost an arm and a leg, and it is a real pleasure to see a ‘proper’ wedding cake.  If you’re going to spend money on a cake (which I am always a bit dubious about anyhow as its such a fleeting pleasure) then spend it properly.

Sadly I don’t think that Jan’s mum does this for a living – but if she did you’d want her to make your cake!

I left just as they were sitting down to their meal.  I know that they’ll have had a wonderful time and hope that there were not too many sore heads the next morning.

See you soon.

Award winning Fotoamour!

Last weekend was the annual British Institute of Professional Photographers awards evening in the North West.

I am not a member of the BIPP but had entered a few pictures into the Non Members category from weddings I have photographed with my husband, Martyn.

Well blow me down!  I actually won the non members award for Best Image!  I came away with a fancy certificate in a frame and a years free membership of the BIPP.

So you see, my Fotoamour lovelies, you may have booked on price but you still get a top product with us.  In fact an award winning product.

One of our other photographers, Sara, is also hoping to join the BIPP.  Those of you who have seen some of the work on the gallery will have seen Sara’s images.  We have no doubt that she will be accepted.

I will post this blog now but I’ll come back to it later with the winning picture.

PS.  If Jan and Darren are reading – good luck for Saturday!  We’ll get some fabulous pictures for you.

Jude and Stephen 15th March 2008

Great wedding with fun people and lots of Irish banter.

The Preston Marriott is a great hotel, staff are friendly and there’s never usually any hassle.  Jude and Stephen’s guests certainly seemed very happy with the hotel’s hospitality.  They also have a good toastmaster and a porter who’ll make your life easy.

The weather was great there too – plenty of winter sun which meant some great soft light just before the sun went down.

Flowers were by Four Seasons and were beautiful – the florist is Hazel Merrells local to the Fylde I think.   There was a brilliant little bus thing which would be good to transport a bevy of bridesmaids by Caremore Cars.  Don’t know where they’re based but the transport was unusual (in a good way!) and they lived up to their names and were very caring and helpful.

You could do worse than contact these people if you’re considering your wedding suppliers right now.

Do be careful – at the moment we’re getting loads of enquiries and it won’t just be Fotoamour that’s getting booked up.  If you see something you like for your wedding get it booked and don’t hang around.  The wedding market has been through a bit of a depression in recent months but from the number of bookings we’re getting, its on the way up again.  Don’t be too laid back otherwise all the wedding professionals will be snapped up for your date, and you’ll be left with whoever is available rather than the suppliers you really want.
